课程简介

英语国家概况是英语专业学生的必修专业主干课程。本课程旨在让学生熟悉并了解主要英语国家社会和文化的概貌,掌握其地理、历史、政治、经济、教育以及文化传统、风俗习惯和社会生活等方面的基本知识。通过该课程的学习,学生能提高自身对英文社科类书籍的阅读能力,扩大知识面;理解这些国家的民族思想和生活态度,正确分析其所存在的问题,树立正确的世界观;提高人文素养,加深对英语语言和文化的理解,提高学生对文化差异的敏感性,宽容性和处理文化差异的灵活性,培养跨文化交际的能力,有效地为开展国际合作与对外文化交流打下坚实的文化基础。

 

The survey of English-speaking countries is a compulsory core course for English majors, which provides an overview of the geography, history, politics, economy and education, and as well as cultural traditions, customs and sociology of these countries. It aims to improve students’ skill of reading books on the social science, expand their knowledge and enable them to understand the thinking mode and attitude towards life of the people in these countries and to make an objective analysis on their current problems so that correct world value can be established. Meanwhile, deeper understanding of English itself and its relative culture can be achieved, and the humanistic qualities can be improved and the cross-cultural communication ability can be fostered with increasing sensibility and tolerance to the cultural differences and flexibility in dealing with them, which can lay a solid foundation of cultural knowledge for effective international cooperation and cross-cultural communication.
